Godere is a PU crossbody bag manufacturer and exporter in China, producing this style at our factory in Jimo District, Qingdao for brands in 25+ countries. The body is polyurethane-coated leather with a fine grain, an adjustable shoulder strap and a zip pocket inside for valuables. MOQ, colours and logo are confirmed on the sample, and bulk orders are quoted within 24 hours.
A PU crossbody bag lives in the hand, not in a display case. It gets opened twenty times a day, dropped on the floor three times a week and hung from a chair back at lunch. The material has to survive that routine before it looks good in a photograph.
What Is PU Material?
PU stands for polyurethane coating on a fabric backing. It is not leather, and we do not describe it as leather on any specification sheet we issue.
That honesty matters on a purchase order, because PU and PVC are often sold to buyers as the same thing, and they are not. A polyurethane coated surface is softer in the hand, bends without a plastic crackle, and holds up better in cold weather. The trade-off is that it is generally less water-resistant than PVC, so where the bag will be used in heavy rain, the specification changes rather than the marketing copy.
The finish is usually described by grain: fine grain for a neat, uniform surface, or a pebble grain for a softer look. We emboss the pattern on our own press, so the depth and repeat of the grain stay consistent between the sample and the production run, which is one of the standard points of failure when the top layer comes from a different supplier than the assembly line.

The choice usually comes down to the market. PU suits brands selling into mild or moderate climates where feel and price matter. PVC is specified for wet markets and low price points. Cowhide is sold where the customer expects the material to age, and it is a different conversation about cost. Most buyers start a PU crossbody bag programme with two or three colours, then reorder the best seller in volume.
Usage Notes
· Do not overload the bag. A PU shell holds its shape best at two-thirds capacity, and a stuffed crossbody stretches at the strap anchors.
· Check the strap anchor stitching monthly if the bag carries a laptop or camera; the anchors take the load, not the strap itself.
· Keep the bag away from ballpoint pens, sunscreen and hand sanitiser, all of which leave marks on PU that cannot be polished out.
How to Maintain
Wipe the surface with a soft damp cloth and a mild soap solution, then dry with a dry cloth in the shade. Never machine wash a PU Crossbody Bag, and never use alcohol, acetone or abrasive cleaner: the first removes the surface finish, the second attacks the backing.
For storage, fill the bag lightly with tissue so it keeps its shape, close the zipper, and keep it out of direct sunlight. Between two bags of equal quality the one stored flat, in a dust bag, still looks new a year later.

FAQ
Q1: Is PU leather a type of plastic?
A: PU is a polyurethane coating on a fabric backing, so it is neither full leather nor PVC. It sits in between on feel and price, and we state it as PU on every specification sheet.
Q2: Can you match our brand colour?
A: Yes. Send a Pantone reference or a physical swatch and we match it on the sample before bulk production starts.
Q3: What is the minimum order for a custom PU crossbody bag?
A: MOQ depends on the colour and hardware combination and is confirmed with the quotation. Small trial orders are possible for a first order.
Q4: How long does a sample take?
A: In-stock leather, lining, snaps and zippers give a sample in 2-3 days. Special colours or custom hardware take 3-5 days or longer, and a complex style adds 5-7 days of assembly.
Q5: Which countries do you export to?
A: We export to more than 25 countries across Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia, and we handle the export documents and carton marking for the destination.
